[Hiring] need a little help from a javascript, chart.js, front-end type person for a personal project

How detailed do you need me to be? Are you good if i give you a list of formulas that are to be the possible outputs/inputs? If so, I'll send you it tomorrow when I get back to my desk.

Yep. I think a list of formulas, inputs, and outputs would be perfect.

What's your background in currently? Something about studying astronomy?

I have an undergrad in physics which is where I did some observational astronomy. I have a masters in electrical engineering and am currently pursuing a PhD in human-computer interaction. I've been programming for almost 8 years now, my top languages are probably python, javascript/coffeescript, and java (but of course I've worked with all kinds of things).

Do you have a linked-in?

Yes, but I don't really maintain it.

How many years experience do you have as a JS developer?

Though I jump between languages a lot, I focused the past two years primarily on javascript and angular in particular.

What is your typical hourly compensation (if there is one)?

I think 20$/hr sounds fair, but really I'll do an hours-to-complete estimate for each job and give you a quote based on that. I don't like to bill hourly because I'll often spend extra time learning something new and I don't feel right billing for that time. These quotes are subject to change as the tasks do, but here's some guesses:

For job #1 it will probably take less than hour to get a github repo setup, add the boilerplate html/js/css, and complete the actual task. I'll do that just as a demo.

Job #2 : Sounds like you want to copy-paste in some json data and see a graph? Should be a simple few-hour job varying a lot depending on the complexity of the desired graphs.

job #3 : This sounds like something I might use d3 for, although a canvas element might work - it just depends on what exactly you're looking to do. This still sounds like a relatively small task though, probably <10hrs.

What is your preferred method of payment?

I don't really have a preferred method at the moment, but amazon webpay or google wallet seem best to me. I'm also set up to accept bitcoin or paypal.

How much time would you have to dedicate to helping me?

I can commit to 5hrs/week, but most weeks I should have much more time than that.

When could you start?

I can get you that demo of #1 this week, and can start on some real work this Saturday.

What JS libraries do you typically use?

I like jquery for quick-and-dirty prototypes, but have grown quite fond of angular's ability to compartmentalize things - especially when paired with browserify. I also like to use coffeescript and less for css (though I've been considering making the switch to sass).

What chart library do you have experience with (Is D3 the thing to use nowadays)? I spent some time choosing a favorite charting library a while back but now they've blurred together a bit (there are a lot of good and easy to use options so I tend to choose whatever fits the use-case). I know I've used flot, highcharts, and jquery sparklines.

D3 is very cool - and I've used it before - but it is best for highly-customized graphics. If you're looking for something standard like 2-axis plots, then you're better off using a library that has that build-in.
