History buffs of Reddit, what historic event do you think should be made into a TV series or movie? How do you imagine it going?

A Pacific version of Band of Brothers.

Here's how I would envision the series would go:

  • It begins naturally with a cinematic and detailed timeline of Pearl Harbor, rivaling the production of Pearl Harbor (the movie) and Tora! Tora! Tora! (the better movie). It would be a concise 1-2 episode preamble of the events in the Pacific Theater to come.

  • The next couple episodes, such as in band of brothers, would be a mobilization of the Navy/Marines into the Pacific, the men preparing for the island warfare to come. The Battle of Midway would be covered briefly, as it was a quick and decisive success, then allowing the focus to go onto the brave soldiers who would hop from island to island chain towards Japan.

  • In the end half of the series we see the desperation of the Japanese military increase, resulting in the increase of Kamikaze and Banzai suicide attacks towards our troops.

  • The final few episodes would surround the US capturing of key Pacific islands like Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The series would end on an anticlimactic point of the Marines training to do a virtual suicide mission of invading mainland Japan, only to see the Japanese surrender due to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
