HIV cure close after disease 'vanishes' from blood of British man

Uh, no you haven't. Referring to a group or a person as "mentally ill" in order to establish legal control of them is a trait of the left. Conservatives tend to label things as immoral or criminal to achieve the same thing. I'm not disagreeing that they do attempt to achieve the same thing, they just use different methods.

I have more respect for the latter than the former. The latter at least accepts that criminality and morality are subjective things - it admits that society has to just draw the line sometimes and deal with it, and it's just a matter of agreeing on where the line ought to lie - whereas the idea that undesirable things are "mentally ill" attempts to assert opinion and policy as a matter of objective science. We see it everywhere today. Read a comment board: people argue that murderers, rapists, etc are all "just mentally ill".

That argument tries to appear as if it's coming from a place "beyond just politics, but science and medicine", and that's extremely disingenuous and even pretty dangerous. Teddy Roosevelt was a eugenics supporter and at the same time a "driver of the Progressive Era of America".

One cannot disagree with this mentality without appearing to flout all of the scientific method. It's a useful little trick. But it's also scummy objectively dishonest and again, a chick-track of the modern left.
