Yes I know, check out the CDC study though. "Single parent household" doesn't tell the whole stor, but is why the myth is able to exist.

The CDC looked at daily involvement of parents and found that despite the disparity in marriage surrounding children, black fathers were still more involved in the daily lives of their kids. Black fathers, even when living apart, were more likely to bathe, diaper, dress, potty train, etc every day than white fathers (70%, compared to 60%) and this was maintained across the age range of kids (they weren't just involved in early childhood).

The single parent statistic says a lot more about attitudes/behaviors surrounding marriage than it does parenting. It's admittedly counter-intuitive to me, but it's what the research says.
