In the dayz of the mod, and hell, even the early dayz of SA, people would hold you up. And you would let them.
They would taunt, they would steal, they would torture, they would poison. But most of the time, they would let you go afterwards.
This isn't really a thing anymore. Go try it.
Tell someone to put their hands up, 90% of the time they will just run, even a fresh spawn.
Why? The answer is simple, because people rob you then kill you. Almost EVERY time.
You can comply with all their wishes, doesn't matter, you are still getting shot in the end.
So now there is no reason to let someone hold you up, and no reason to try to hold someone up.
The community has killed the hold up. So why the change, did all the mod players that did this for years all of a sudden change their playstyle?
I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions, but I will tell you mine right now.
I think the majority of people that started this community wide change were new players to dayz.
People who never played the mod, people who saw a 2 minute PVP video on youtube and decided to pause COD, put down the console controller, and bring the EXACT SAME playstyle from those shoot'em up games into this survival game.
Now I have nothing against PVP...or KOS.
If there wasn't the ever-present danger of a bullet destroying the back of my head then this game wouldn't be a fraction of the fun it is, it wouldn't make your heart race when you hear a snap.
Do you agree that this is a step in the wrong direction, at least if you want more player interaction (which is what makes this game great, don't try and deny it) or do you think hold ups are a thing of the past and we should all KOS all the time?
Do you think the players that came from the mod got sick of a lack of content and 'end game' and decided to kill everyone at the end of a hold up?
And lastly, am I completely out to lunch? Do you regularly let people go?
Do people regularly let YOU go?
I still try and let people get away at the end of an interaction unless they actually say something threatening or offensive, but people that I encounter kill me no matter what (if its a hold up scenario).
