Holder Frames Ferguson PD For Racism Using Bogus 'Disparate Impact' Stats

What a joke.

"African Americans are overrepresented in FPD's vehicular stops" and victims of "racial bias," Holder concludes in his report.
He notes that blacks accounted for 85% of vehicle stops, "despite comprising only 67% of Ferguson's population," while whites made up 15% of stops, despite representing 29% of the population.

The author says this doesn't equate to biased policing because data compiled by the DOJ itself show that blacks violate traffic laws more than whites.

Let that sink in for a minute.

How do we know blacks violate traffic laws more? Because of the number of citations they receive, obviously. However, the contention among many is that police everywhere are far more likely to pull over a black driver. A portion of the evidence the author of this piece is citing against bias came from Ferguson where there is an appearance of bias. We are seriously being asked to ignore specifics on the ground in favor of a statistical baseline that itself could well be skewed.

Let that sink in.

Am I throwing all cops under the bus? Not for a minute. (There are valid reasons why blacks might get ticketed more often that have nothing to do with police bias- I.E. headlight, child seat, etc- but that is another discussion in and of itself). Neither am I saying that police deserve special consideration when trying to determine if they cross the line.

Things are broken with our police in many ways. One would have to be blind to everything that's going on around us to think otherwise. Blind, or obtusely contrarian. Instead of facing the possibility of this truth and moving to fix things, people like the author here would have you believe that looking at this one little piece of the apparent problem to see if it really is a problem is nothing but racial politics. It's just blacks being uppity now that one of them has some power.

And I think that pretty handily reveals the place the author is coming from.
