Holidays stop being fun when you are old enough to realize you are in a low-income family and your parents stress a lot about the holidays.

Being poor is fine, just don't fucking have kids and make them suffer along with you. My parents were from Chinese villages and EXTREMELY poor to the extent of not eating to buy paper to do homework on. I am lucky they actually worked to the bone and immigrated to Canada and are in the top 5 or so percent in terms of income. They weren't going to let their kids suffer so they suffered instead like learning English with a dictionary by themselves using the moon for lighting because oil for lanterns costed money. Before you think I'm a spoiled brat go read my other comment about me grinding my way through school working nights. Real fucking conviction and determination is constant, not just during the holidays. If you have to work your fingers to the bone just to buy a couple of gifts and a turkey then I'm truly sorry for those kids. Hopefully the poster either saves up for them or the kids get scholarships or are talented.
