US homeless count rises for 1st time in 7 years

And my family and I are on that list (have been for over a year now), lost my job after sixteen years due to a medical issue, got back to work after recovering but not fast enough to save our apartment we'd had for almost ten years, now with an eviction on our record, we can't find anyone who'll rent to us. My daughter and our cats are staying with some friends and my wife, son, and I are staying with another friend but we need to be out by the end of December and aren't sure where we'll go next (hoping we'll have enough saved for a travel trailer by then or it'll be back to a motel/hotel again (spent ten months at an extended stay until it got too expensive to stay any longer). We've tried every social program, etc. but there's a years long waiting list or we make too much money (too much? Shit, we're barely making it as it is).
