A homeowner’s worst nightmare - Arif Adnan Syed turned luxury rentals into rooming houses. Catching him was simple. Evicting him was almost impossible.

I’m sorry but I just have to chuckle at your post as it reeks of first world privilege.

Those “20 very skinny men” were likely living in this before: https://india.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/15/in-mumbai-the-50000-slum-shack/ ($50k in 2011 is probably $150k today in housing costs)

Their current accommodations, while not ideal, are a huge step up (running water and AC for a start).

What you’re missing here is that those “20 very skinny men” will work 5 minimum wage jobs that other Canadians refuse to; saving every penny they have, and providing a life for their kids that is far better than they had. So come back to them in 20 years from now and let’s see who’s further ahead? It’s an immigrant tale as old as time.

I’m sure they’ll have many tales to tell their grandkids about their living conditions and racism they received when they first moved to Canada. Maybe even that woman/man that walked in to buy the very house that they were living in and were told to “burn their socks when they left the viewing“ by the real estate agent.

Yeah, I can see why old school Canadians are upset. They got by on absolute minimum effort and reaped the financial benefit of mass immigration (hello house values). Now that their kids and grandkids can’t live the same way, they are dumbfounded.
