Honestly.

What the fuck? I was lucky to get paid more than $5 for doing tons of work for my parents. They def weren’t going to give me an allowance.

It burns because both my parents made six figures, they could have afforded it, they just didn’t believe in allowances or buying their kids new toys.

My good friend lived in a trailer park and her parents gave her $20 every time we headed out their door to hang out in the neighborhood. I was jealous of the allowance, not the living situation. Everyone at school got the cool new toys and I never got shit.

Before I learned my parents financial situation I literally thought we were poor, because the kids at school told me so and made fun of me. Super embarrassing once I got old enough to realize they were upper-middle class lol.

All my best items were bought by me. My mom called me “spoiled” recently because I have an iphone, 3 gaming systems, a tablet, basically all the newest tech. I just looked at her like she was insane. I bought all these things with my own money! I’m 30, live far from her house! And I make less than $40k a year, I just budget for what I want :/

Maybe if I’d had some toys growing up I wouldn’t feel such a compulsive need to own stuff…
