In honor of the /r/CFB poll now taking applications, what is important to you when ranking teams?

To be a pollster and be at the top of your game you must know the SEC inside and out.

You can't just look at records. You have to factor in that teams like Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Florida the last two years are still SEC teams. I'm a Gator fan so I know. That suckage you see on the field from the Gators in the SEC? they'd pretty much be undefeated in any other conference.

Do you know how "quality losses" work? Unless you're a fan of an SEC team, you most likely don't. Florida State and GS may as well be SEC teams in regards to where they are located. So now that you know that where would you put the Gators? If you wouldn't vote for at least a "stay even" and should be a 2-3 place move up, then no, you do not understand what a quality loss is. If you moved us up 5 for those 2 losses then congratulations you're on your A game.

SEC speed. Does the pollster understand this? I want someone that understands how effective SEC speed is. You know those 3 yards and a cloud of dust B1G conference guys? Well, in the SEC those 3 yards runs would be 60-70 yard TD's against anyone else. (Not necessarily against other SEC teams tho because they are pretty damn fast themselves. Their defenses can run down an SEC offensive player from behind but I don't want anyone on the voting committee that isn't smart enough to know that's normal between SEC teams but no other conference has that speed)

One of the main things I would want in a voting member- Our defenses in the SEC are so great year in and out isn't because our offenses suck. Our offenses have to deal with GREAT SEC defenses every year! Of course, the SEC offenses will suffer. This does not work for other conferences, though. I sometimes watch other conferences, rarely because why I'm already watching the best there is, it's why I've almost completely given up watching the NFL hacks but that's a different story, their defenses are good because their offenses suck so bad and vice versa. Anyone that watches football knows that and I expect anyone on the voting committee to already have at least that basic knowledge of football.

I will finish by giving a tip; If you don't have at least 4 SEC teams in your preseason Top 10, don't embarrass yourself and post it. Instead, take the time to get it right and put out a poll that everyone can take seriously. I would expect at least that much from a voting member on this committee.
