I was hoping this new law was going to make having a pet easier? Denied because a cat may destroy carpets, can't any landlord deny now because of this?

It’s utter garbage as usual from landlords and REA’s. The house I grew up in had brand new and fairly lush but what I’d put as “high maintenance” easily damaged carpet. Better part of a decade our shorthair cat had full reign of the house despite my mother being obsessed with absolute perfection and cleanliness. By the time they sold the place a decade on, there was absolutely no damage to the carpet on account of the cat. Renting with a pet should be treated no differently to renting with children. It’s just people with money and unearned power trying to dictate how others live their lives. Keeping animals should not be limited to the privileged who can afford to buy their own home, nor gate kept by landlords.
