I'm pretty sure my ex bought me that exact costume from Ann Summers last Christmas (not as a present for me, that would have been a shit move, he just wanted to see me wearing it.) I would quite honestly expect to be arrested if I went outside the house wearing it.

When you have a non-sexualised (ie male) body then yeah maybe you can get into the hospital wearing it, because people will assume that you're doing some kind of drunken Christmas comedy stunt to cheer up your sick friend. But you can't wander round in comedy lingerie and expect people to interpret you as a woman, because women don't have a "comedy lingerie" mode. For people who are so obsessed with the idea that womanhood is just a social role, they have no fucking idea what social roles women actually inhabit.
