This host decided to do home renovations with power tools at night. What is my recourse?

If the host asked me if I could hear the banging in my bedroom, and I replies yet a bit, wouldn't that be enough for them to put 2 and 2 together

No! Your host asked because he was worried his work would be disturbing, but you chose to just blow it off. Until you tell him, he has no idea that his work is disturbing you. Now you're ranting in a public forum about the horrible review you are going to give him, rather than just being honest and direct by saying "The noise you are making in the basement at night carries up through the house to the second floor, and it makes it difficult to sleep."

As a consummate woodworker with a shop full of power tools, and a 100+ year old building, I'm always working on something. I'm conscious of the fact that noise carries through the timbers of this old structure, and try to keep the heavy work to a minimum when guests are present. When I'm going to be working on a project that might make noise that others find disturbing, I ask them to let me know if it bothers them. If they don't say anything, I have no idea that my work is impacting their stay. And... I don't have a problem finding something else to do if they find it bothersome. Last night I was up until 1:30 in the morning pressing sheets. There's a lot more prep work involved in hosting guests than simply mashing the approve button, and waiting for the money to be deposited in your checking account.
