Netanyahu tries to spin the turn of Arab states towards Israel as a product of his unmatchable statesmanship. He does with India as well. The fact is, these countries are not turning to Israel because of Netanyahu but because of geopolitics. America of course is allies with Israel, not Netanyahu. These are Trump’s words himself when asked about Netanyahu’s seemingly poor election results. India is not friends with Israel because of Netanyahu but because they’re a natural nationalist ally. Arab nations are not turning to Israel because of Netanyahu but because of the threat of Iran and growing apathy for the Palestinians. Personally I think Netanyahu is actually an impediment to these thawing relations. For America, the reasons are obvious. If it weren’t for the Trump inquiry and the election results, Congress would have voted no confidence in Ron Dermer by nowhere. The fact every main candidate for the democratic primaries rebuked Israel in some form for denying entry of two congressmen into Israel is an extremely serious indicator of the more partisan, estranged relationship with America that will come in the aftermath of Trump. We take America’s friendship for too much granted. It is actually surreal how the greatest super power in the world holds Israel with such low and care that most of their congresspeople visit Israel every year. It was absurd for Netanyahu to test this relationship. Israel needs this relationship for decades to come.

Netanyahu of course is a very unpopular face with the Arab states Both in leadership and public. How can they move forward with ties when there’s a seemingly unstable government led by a man tied to the ultra orthodox and messianic right wing, whereby at any day he might choose to annex parts of the West Bank to keep the coalition together. These leaders fear being seen with Netanyahu. The foreign minister of Oman apologised for sitting next to Netanyahu in Poland. A new face would definitely help to move these relationships forward
