Hotels always better

My landlord raised my rent from $615 to $1050 in 3 years, I live in a complex, that’s the cost split even between 5 of us. Why did it go up? Predatory landlords, and the insurgence of Airbnb here. We are close to Yellowstone, this place used to be cheap a few years ago. Now there are neighborhoods with no families, Chipotle is closed most of the week cause nobody can afford to live here off $15-$17 an hour. Our homeless have full time jobs, i volunteer at the watching shelter and we can take anyone anymore, 3 years ago we barely had any homeless at all. Most people who work here have to live out of town and drive in because the average cost of a house is $850000+ and we don’t have high paying jobs in town, at all. I’m a software engineer, some companies are paying only $56,000 for a software engineer. More of the rich came in when it was a bit cheaper, bought Airbnb houses because we are close to Yellowstone and the mountains, and left the locals nothing. When I used to work service, I was talking to a lady from Texas who moved here. I mentioned the housing crisis. She told me that “if they can’t afford to live here, they don’t deserve to and they need to go somewhere else.” Never thought I’d hear that leave someone’s mouth. Our city is going to experience a crash soon, if it weren’t for the college nobody would be there to work the service jobs.
