Houston ICUs Surpass 100% Capacity As Texas Medical Center Makes Beds Available

Yep. My GF is a PA in CT. She doesn’t usually work the floors but with the surge they got she was forced to do actual medicine shifts (she usually does another specialty). She went from 36 to 60 hours a week, sometimes overseeing up to 30 patients on two units (one Covid, one non). She came home crying multiple days , she stayed an extra 3 hours one shift, off the clock, so a patient didn’t have to die alone, some nights she’d be ok- other nights she’d sit in silence or go straight to bed. Things are finally back to normal for her.

A friend of ours got the go-ahead to open his bar/restaurant (it’s actually a bar- he bought a hotdog machine so he can be considered a restaurant). She was super excited and told me she can’t wait until it opens so we can go. I asked if she remembered the absolute hell she went through not even a month ago, reminded her that can happen again, and doing things like going to the bar are exactly what’s going to lead to it. I know she’s itching to get back to normal- if anyone deserves it it’s people like her, but I know I’m going to need to beg her to just give it more time.
