How do we know?

I don't see any reference to your backing up your claim about science trying to convince everyone that there was a coming ice age way back when. So are you suggesting that perpetuating a lie is okay if one is civilized?

What a joke! You said you were science minded how may times? So coming from a false position like you were trying to con people into taking what you said more seriously is okay if it done in a civilized manner.

So should we accept lies, myths and false posturing (if not an outright con job) because that would be civilized?

Or maybe decent hard working people with families and hopes for a better future are getting sick and tired of all those who retard, delay and stall action on climate change?

I would have respected you more (and others) if you had presented yourself in opposition honestly but instead you try to cloak lies and falsehoods as if they were the 'reasonable' position in the name of science of course. Give me a break! The time is late and what is the point of this farcical subterfuge?

A melting ice cap isn't enough to scare you? Then it isn't but don't try to present yourself as being fair minded or civilized when you deceive people like you did. It is like as if a building were on fire and you were trying to convince people not to rush into calling the fire department because you wanted to discuss whether the fire should be put out first. Meanwhile while you are having a civilized discussion the building is burning.

The time is late and everyone who doesn't bother looking at the facts like a melting ice cap for example or do you want to discuss in a civilized manner whether that is normal and do so endlessly too?

Deniers will say oh you can't prove that man is responsible for that because ice caps have melted before. Now see if you can get this>>> they melted before yes except that it was hundreds of thousands of years ago. That it took several thousand years to melt whereas our ice cap is melting away in 30 years. Just because deniers don't want to do serious research or even to just know the facts as they stand. Is not being civilized at all. Trying to put out the fire is. Trying to prevent a catastrophic rise in temperature is civilized. Trying to avoid some risky experiment that will have to be done on a global scale and then would NOT be reversible like sending particulates into the stratosphere to block out the sun (imagine what a bizarre risk that would be) or dump iron powder into the sea ( which some jerks did without permission claiming they wanted to prove to everyone that it was safe and ended up causing a cascading algal bloom which began to mess with the ocean's biological systems on a huge scale ( and thereby put an end to discussions of dumping iron into the sea). Have you noticed that they don't mention it anymore when talking about geoengineering? Or did you miss that too while you were blathering about being civilized and without knowing the facts.

Do some research and then the debate would be civilized. Trying to pretend your lack of knowledge is the reasonable position is actually and truly uncivilized behavior.
