That can't be real. The hazard that comes from Teflon is that it has a flourine component in it, polytetrafluoroethylene. Heating above a certain temperature causes a chemical decomposition that releases fluoride ions which combine with water to produce hydrofluoric acid which is highly toxic. With all of that said, there is nothing inherently hazardous about polymers which is why there can't be a polymer fume fever.

P.S. if you ever wonder what makes a plastic unrecyclable one primary reason would be halogens. That includes plastics that are treated for flame resistance, PVC, and Teflon. The reason? They aren't safe to burn and a very large percentage of "recycled" plastic ends up getting burned in incinerators.
