How do I achieve living further out while working from home partially?

I first requested the option to work from home part-time on a temporary basis a couple of years ago during one of the Metro shutdowns. Om my remote days I made sure to respond quickly to emails and do at least as much work as when I was in the office. Things went back to normal when the metro reopened.

Then last year, my manager wasn't able to get the full amount of a raise for me she wanted when I was promoted because HR said my qualifications didn't merit it. I asked to work from home a couple days per week instead and she agreed to that since it was in her control. So overall, what worked for me was working at the same company a few years and developing a reputation as a dedicated worker, then asking in the context of negotiating a new position when I knewmy manager was in my cornerand frustrated on my behalf.

In the future, I'm hopeful working from home will be more common and you won't need to go through those lengths to work from home part time.

That said, if you plan to commute into DC from that far out three days per week, you are going to burn out fast. I recommend not going over a 90 minute commute each way and factoring traffic into that 90 minutes.
