How ANTIFA targeted a Norwegian festival and trampled free expression

The far-right were bolstered by support from the ruling classes. Right from the beginning of the Weimar Republic, when the Social Democratic Party of Germany, who announced the formation of the republic on the wings of revolutionary fervor themselves, allied with the proto-fascists in the Freikorps in an attempt to crush the ongoing socialist demonstrations, resulting in the death of revolutionary socialists such as Rosa Luxemburg. Hitler was granted a position in government by the more moderate ruling party, and from there he uses his position to consolidate power and transform it into the Nazi regime we know and hate today. Mussolini was granted power by the Italian monarch. Franco seized power in a Civil War, backed by the military and the clergy.

No one is denying that fascism is a reactionary ideology, that's what it is. A reaction by the upper classes to the demands of the masses, because the masses threaten to dismantle the social hierarchies that make the ruling class the ruling class, because the system that gives the upper class power is the same system that puts the masses into a position of enslavement, and fascism is specifically designed to strictly maintain that social hierarchy

It's for that reason that systems that rely on such hierarchies, like capitalism, will eventually degrade into fascism as it is required to defend the conditions that allow capitalism to exist.

It's why so-called "liberal democracies" like the United States resorted to similarly authoritarian measures throughout the 20th century to combat working class organization. From McCarthyism and the House of Un-American Activities Committee to more modern approaches. It's why the FBI tried to discredit Martin Luther King, Jr., by calling him a communist because of his leadership role in the Civil Rights movement. It's why they had a file on Albert Einstein, as he was a major supporter of the Civil Rights movement. It's why, throughout the 70s, they brutally suppressed various groups, from the Black Panthers to the American Indian Movement, through infiltration and manipulation, or mass jailing, or outright murder (Fred Hampton, for example). It's why Western powers support various authoritarian regimes, often helping them dismantle democratically elected leaderships that go against the Western power structure. Maintaining the dominance of the upper class is more important to the upper class than allowing the people freedom, because if the people had proper freedom, they'd vote the upper class out of existence.

The systems of liberal society were created with violence, they are maintained with violence, they will continue to escalate that violence the more the liberal status-quo is threatened, and they will only be torn down with violent acts of self-defense from the masses that suffer under liberalism and the more extreme right-wing movements liberalism allows to grow.
