How do you apply for jobs when you have no experience or projects?

My father did this once when he didn't have the requisite knowledge or experience, but really wanted a job with his dream company:

He went to the office of the president or CEO, and said he was looking for a job. The secretary laughed and told him that he needed to go to personnel and leave his resume and stuff, and that her boss had nothing to do with any of that; it was all far below his pay grade.

My father nodded and apologized for wasting her time, chatted politely and amiably for a minute, then said that he was obviously new to the building, and would she mind writing directions to personnel for him? Of course she did, and he promptly left.

He went directly to personnel and said something like "Hey, I was just visiting my old frat bro, seems like he's doing well as head of his company. He gave me this to give to you; you can verify with his secretary that I was just there if you like." And he gave the person in personnel the note that was written on stationery from the office of the CEO, and I guess that his admin assistant was well-known and had an easily recognizable handwriting.

The H.R. guy nearly had a heart attack, and immediately helped him. They promptly interviewed him and gave him a job that on paper requires a Masters degree even though he only had an Associates. My father was always doing crap like this.
