How are the Bench interviews initiated?

I would go straight to your HR and ask to be cross trained for Softlines, Hardlines, ship to store all those kinds of positions.

Well I have spoken to ETL-HR about wanting to cross-train and have taken the initiative to go directly to my TL in charge of my schedule as well as the ETL-GE (for cashiering, this is the role I've asked for shifts in the most) and ETL-SF (consumeables, hardlines) to try to pick up training shifts. And I made it clear I'm not looking for a full move to a different workcenter, just training elsewhere.

"ETL-Logi needs his people"

"Your schedule is too full" (its not, 4 hour shifts have definitely been doable)

My ETL-Logi even sat me down to talk about my sweating, as if working in a 85-90 degree backroom correlates with standing at a check lane cashing people out.

Like I've been averaging ~35 hour weeks for about the past month and I do sweat a lot so there is some merit behind those statements but cashiering isn't exactly strenuous work so sweating is highly unlikely even for me and I would be perfectly happy to have even just one 4 hour shift a week.

Shit's frustrating me to no end. I've been a good TM, perfectly capable. I've even gone 14 days without a day off via being called in to cover for call-outs, worked insane shifts, and otherwise been incredibly dependable. And I have shown a strong desire to be challenged and learn so I can grow in the job.

But all I've ever asked in return was to be cross-trained. But to no avail.
