How are you feeling about Best Buy as an Employee?

Can't relate to queue situation. You have a General Manger, at least one Assistant Manger (Sales), maybe an Operations Manager as well. You DO NOT have any additional actual managers beyond those 2-3. You may have employees with "manager" in their job title, but they are NOT managers, they are hourly employees like you. Supervisors now a days are manager lite - they have alarm codes and keys. All of those folks should be providing work direction to get things done. And as hourly employees rolling up their sleeves when need be to get the job done. Document and bring your concerns to your GM, 1:1 off the floor. With "everyone doing everything" if you don't see a sup or hourly mgr taking out or picking up trash, when needed and can not be delegated, culture is broken in your store.

A SALARIED MANAGER - GM OR ASM SALES OR OPS, IS A BONEFIDE EXECUTIVE. THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO HIRE AND FIRE EMPLOYEES. AS A BONEFIDE EXECUTIVE THEY ARE "ALWAYS ON THE CLOCK" SALARIED MANAGERS DO NOT LOG THEIR TIME WORKED IN TLC. THEY ARE PAID AN HOURLY RATE AT 40 HOURS PER WEEK, NO MORE NO LESS. I HAVE NEVER MET A SALARIED MANAGER WHO WORKED LESS THAN 50 (INCLUDING, CONF CALLS, TEAMS MEETINGS, GROUP CHATS, ETC). SO, KNOWING NOTHING ELSE, YOUR SALARIED MANAGER OUT OF THE GATE IS "WORKING OFF THE CLOCK" EVERY SINGLE WEEK. THERE IS NO "CLOCK" SINCE THEY ARE SALARIED. BUT LOOK AT THEIR PAY STUB. $25.00 HR X 40 HRS...$52000 YEAR WITH 20% INCENTIVE. IF THEY WORK 80 HOURS A WEEK, DO THEY GET MORE? NOPE. NO EXTRA PAY FOR HOLIDAYS, EITHER. AND IF I WERE A GM, ALL SALARIED MANAGERS WORKING FOR ME WOULD HAVE VPN ACCESS OR EVEN GM LAPTOPS. THEY WOULD HAVE EMAIL ON THEIR PHONE. AND I WOULD DEMAND THEY WORK AS MANY HOURS AS ME, COST OF ADMISSION. THEY WANT TO BE A GM SOMEDAY, RIGHT?

So go easy on Salaried ASMs. If I were a GM I would make them hate life, and I know most GMs already do that. If you are talking about an hourly fake manager that doesn't have to deal with any of that (Mobile Manager, Appliance Manger, Geek Squad Manager, any and all Supervisors, in some store even leads have keys and codes so them too) not doing grunt work, then they are just being lazy, call them out. They are line level employees who get paid more and have keys, whoopie doo.

If you are reading this an are a lazy (I mean overworked) hourly leader, no offense. Just pay attention. If you find yourself at any point in the SDR, AP, or ADMIN having a conversation with another hourly leader that last for more than FOUR MINUTES that does not need to be off the floor (aka taking about 24mo financing and how that breaks into TTS OR talking about some bull shit development class) then look in the mirror and realize the truth. Change. Move that conversation on to the floor where you can stop and greet customers 10ft/30sec or pick up trash, or just be present. Some things require discretion, most of that is only ever handled by salaried staff...so hourly leaders, whatever nonsense you're cooking up doesn't need to be in a closed off office. Your team is demanding your presence and your contribution - DELIVER!
