how are late-joins still in this game

was replying to the OP, not you. also i wasn't really interested in talking about your suggestions because they're frankly not very good and have been suggested and argued dozens of times before (most other people call it a surrender button btw...you can find tons of arguments about it on the official forums). also your idea is poorly formed and leaves a lot of questions.

first of all, you need to explore the different ways a concede button could be implemented because each approach has different weaknesses. here's the two basic ways it would operate, which i'll cover now.

1. i hit concede and i alone quit the game. my teammates keep playing. this is basically what we have right now and it would be tantamount to ragequitting.

when this person concedes (aka ragequits), a bot replaces them. Ronimo is removing latejoins when the new matchmaking server goes live, so no new player will ever come to fill that slot. hence my first post -

Removing late joins is going to mean I'm playing more games with bots which is seriously not what I'm looking for in an online multiplayer game.

this affects both the team with the quitter and the other team. they're both stuck with a bot in the game for the remainder of the session, which IMO will never be as fun as playing 3 humans vs 3 humans.

now you might say (i've heard people suggest this) - the quitters slot shouldn't even be replaced by a bot. in other words, a quitter will force the game into a 2v3 situation until one team wins. while i understand the competitive merits of such an idea, i think this is a horrible solution for a game that i play for fun. a bot may feed often, but they still contribute while i wait for their slot to be filled by a real human. forcing a 2v3 situation will likely lead to every game with a single quitter ending with all the players on one team quitting. that sounds like a waste of time to me and not very fun for any of the 6 people involved.

2. the concede button works more like a vote. in that, i hit concede but keep playing until either a majority or a unanimous vote to concede is hit. once the vote is decided, the game abruptly ends or the entire team drops out simultaneously, leaving the remaining team to keep playing against bots. it's also unclear how this would be conveyed to your teammates if at all. if i hit concede, do you get a notification on your screen that robochase votes to quit? can i withdraw my vote after the fact? perhaps the tide of battle changes while i'm waiting for my team to decide whether they want to ragequit along with me and i wish to keep playing.

if it's a vote, tbh i really don't like to quit myself, so now my team is just going to guilt me into conceding, which doesn't sound like a great time to me. not to mention that a vote in itself is a distraction in a super fast game where every second matters. if you don't like the way the game is going, i would prefer you just bow out ASAP so someone new can take your place. one of the worst things that happens in games right now is when someone gives up or just starts complaining in chat, sitting at the base not doing anything. a voting system wastes time the losing team cannot afford.

....

ok and just generally, i'm not cool with a surrender button. awesomenauts, believe it or not, has a lot of comeback potential, and i've seen a lot of people just give up, completely misjudging the battlefield. having some vote to quit just creates a bunch of negative energy when your team really needs to actually stay focused and motivated. having a surrender button will limit comebacks in the game overall.

....

ok and then we have the auto-win suggestion. this isn't a bad idea but it really should be left to the players remaining to decide whether to auto complete the game. you know, instead of just having the game auto complete it as soon as the 3rd player drops out. because it's actually fun to finish games sometimes.

the auto-win thing is also exploitable. let's say a team is actually winning significantly (hell let's say it's even 1 guy and 2 bots beating a full team of 3...i have seen this happen). that person or all the persons on the winning team get disconnected (i have seen this happen). the losing team mashes their autowin button right as the super droid starts blasting their core. they've just won the game without destroying any enemy towers and their core in jeopardy. it's a very hypothetical situation but it's scummy design to even allow scenarios like this to exist.
