How are Tom Cruise and John Travolta not considered terrible humans?

I know I'm late to this thread, but I'm a big fan of Tom Cruise's work and started reading into Scientology because of his affiliation with it.

If my optometrist is anti-abortion and I am not, it changes nothing as long as it did not affect their ability to test my eyesight. If my mechanic is devoutly religious and I am not, it changes nothing as long as it does not affect their ability to fix my car. The same stands for Tom Cruise.

I watch his movies and I enjoy them. Making movies is his job, being a Scientologist is part of his personal life. It never interferes with his ability to make movies. It's similar to Jim Carrey being anti-vaccination. I liked his movies before I knew that and the quality of those movies has not changed since learning that.

Tom Cruise credits Scientology and Hubbard's work with helping him overcome dyslexia. In his first film he was a functional illiterate and that would have seriously held him back in an acting career. He has dedicated thousands of hours to studying Scientology and spent a lot of money on it. If he believes it brought him benefits because he failed to see the negatives, then it makes sense he would endorse it. From what I understand those around him would never bring up any negativity regarding Scientology anyway, as it's against the rules.

Many people that have worked with him have nothing bad to say. He is polite, kind and helpful. He is a good listener and has a great sense of humour. He is very professional, good at his job, a great stunt man, and a caring individual. He rarely complains and is sometimes the sole positive force on set. He has good ideas and is willing to do whatever is needed. He trains very hard mentally and physically for his roles to make the best experience for the viewer.

The reason I don't consider Tom Cruise a terrible human being is the same reason I don't consider many people terrible; their personal life is just that. If it doesn't interfere in what benefit they bring my life, I don't really care. He is there to produce entertainment and he does that successfully through dedication and hard work.
