How bad is ob/gyn, really?

Lot's of guys complain because it's a female centered specialty where women kind of rule the culture in many cases and it's different from the usual. I've heard a lot about the 'bitchyness' and 'catty-ness' of obgyn and male students being treated like crap. Personally I loved it as a guy. It was seriously the only rotation where I went in with 1/10 interest and left at 9/10. If I could tolerate an OR I would do it in a heart beat.

As you'll find out with all specialties, there is no real clairvoyance on how it will go. An attending/resident can have a bad month and make your life hell, or your whole teams personalities seem to click and everyone loves going to work each day. The way one programs specialties is also not that great of a reflection on the specialty as a whole. My programs neurosurg department was amazing and I had a very 'chill' time while still working quite a bit. I loved it, but was very sternly reminded that our program was very unique in that aspect, and as chief residents changed so would the feel of the program.

tl;dr- nothing certain in life except death, taxes, and that gen surg is a nightmare.
