- Get involved in politics at whatever level you can. You have to start somewhere.

- May sound obvious but become good at it. It's a skill.

- Try to understand people who don't think like you and your friends. Like really try to understand them. At best, you might see parts of their point of view. At worst, you'll know better how to counter their objections. In particular, don't live in Twitter bubbles.

- Bear in mind that nobody gets to be PM without making unwanted compromises and uncomfortable alliances.

- Despite all of the above, keep some grain of principle, some memory of why you went in in the first place.
