How can the fitness industry do better?

I'm not entirely sure why you're getting downvoted, but you're right. Fitness is important of course, but the fitness industry is predicated on the notion that you need to get AS FIT AS POSSIBLE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, and that means buying their calorie trackers, their supplements, their clothes, their equipment, etc. Slow, sustainable progress with lifelong benefits isn't profitable.

Constantly logging your food and exercise, going on cuts/bulks, and buying fancy equipment or classes isn't doable or healthy for everyone, but the fitness industry tries to make you feel like you shouldn't even bother unless you working as hard as you possibly can.
