Well, to be fair, Abby did do the exact same thing when she held a knife to Dina’s throat while she was unconscious.

Both Ellie and Abby were just a shell of their former selves in the end. They both lost everything they knew and loved and both witnessed traumatic things that shaped their world and their view. They both believed their acts were justified because of their traumas. Nobody won. Nobody is better than the other. That’s why Part II is so conflicting.

They’re both incredibly flawed and do despicable things because they believe they have been wronged. You don’t necessarily need to agree with the characters decisions. Naughty Dog just gave you the opportunity to see two sides of the same coin and how one act of violence could start a whole cycle.
