How can I start become more of a fun and spontaneous person who goes with the flow instead of planned and serious all the time?

It sounds simple, but if you want to be spontaneous, you have to not have as many pre-scheduled activities standing in your way.

I don't like scheduling too many activities in the future (unless they're truly awesome or necessary ones) so that I can make plans usually no more than 1-3 days in advance on average.

Part of that requires knowing a lot of people and also having a bunch of friends who like surprise events. Don't expect a solid crew fully stocked and ready to embrace spontaneity overnight... Building your crew takes time.

With your schedule free of constant future events, reach out to a friend or two now and then, invite them to the beach, movies, or over for dinner.

You'll find you have a few friends who are free or who keep their schedule open, too. You also may find those random hang outs become some of your favorite shared memories.

You can also try just meeting up for a wander. Roam about together through a neighborhood you like, or agree to meet for dinner but have a few hours blocked off for something to develop.

But you do you. Just know that the first step to spontaneity is having free time. The second, having friends who also have some free time.

Oh! And say yes to offers and opportunities. Even if they sound boring, as long as they're safe and all that, you may find that one door leads you to the next... And then the next... And the next...
