How damaging is an employment gap?

i am in your shoes noq and in my experience my only answer is "it depends"

the big problem is all of the competition. there are so many people who somehow managed to graduate and have a consistent string of employment/internships/volunteer roles. a resume with gaps, without anything special on it, cannot stand a chance amonsgt all of the good resumes. you absolutly must have something to compensate for the gaps, while chasing careers that actually have a large supply of work.

things that can help:

-going back to school and reinvent yourself. do it over, keep a perfect gpa, be an intern, its never too late.

-start volunteering now, dont stop.

-avoid careers that are overly competitive that also have a lack of supply jobs, examples: investment banking, law, other bank/finance jobs that require perfect candidates, also those easy secretary/office jobs everyone wants. (there are more but i cannot think of more.)

-pursue careers with a large supply of jobs. (software development tech jobs, nursing if you are willing to go back to school.
