Totally get it as my own experience started when encountering a woman purposely driving the wrong way with a gleam in her eye, trying to go around a suburban mall packed with shoppers. Think one needs to render onto Caesar to some extent though. Most people, particularly westerners, won’t react well to simple pillows on the floor.

I’d get a few good pieces of furniture that are easy to clean, repair and move .. then be done with it. Something “bouncy “and/or “rounded” edges if rugrats enter the equation, but also as we age, it’ll help with falling issues. .

Outdoors a good charcoal grill and picnic table work wonders. Substitute a smaller grill (charcoal) for an apartment.

Bedroom? Well growing up partly in Japan made me partial to tatami mats, but that’s a personal choice.
