How did you know?

Because I produce. Both in feature work and solving problems. I am self taught with about 6yoe (switched careers via freecodecamp from the non-profit world) and yet have gone farther in our fortune 50 org than lots of folks with 15yoe and multiple CS degrees.

I think it’s 70% actually caring about my job, 20% communication skills, and 10% actual software dev skill. I constantly feel under-deserving of the position I’m in, but when a very healthy portion of developers at mega corps are incompetent and/or just logging in for meetings and not doing any work, it’s not too hard to look like a super star. Compared to what I used to do, the amount they pay most developers vs the amount of work people do is just nuts.
