How did the Beatles recover after the early 1970s?

Paul was the perfectionist- and he had the chops. I could see that being a very frustrating experience- but ultimately rewarding, if you're able to put aside your ego and just learn from it.

I know that's easier said than done- who hasn't had to swallow some humiliation when being shown up by someone more talented that you? I know I have.

Peter Frampton thinks George felt stifled by Paul. Every guitar solo Peter played for George out of admiration, George could only answer "oh, that's Paul." But Paul, like John, and like George, had artistic visions, and wanted to get that sound in their head on tape. And sometimes they had to do it themselves.

I think the truth of the matter is it took George longer to evolve into the player he wanted to be, and the player that would serve the Beatles best. I mean it was the Beatles, probably the hardest band in the world to keep up with. George matured as a songwriter and a player, but it was still happening when The Beatles were on a historic roll, and there probably wasn't time to wait.
