How did you become a fan of your favorite team?

My path to becoming a Mets fan started from a family holiday to New York and Boston in 2000. I'm from Scotland, and the holiday coincided with the soccer European Championships (the equivalent of the World Cup but just for European nations) so I would check ESPN for highlights of games. At the same time, Mike Piazza had a streak of games with an RBI, so his name was mentioned regularly during baseball highlights.

I also happened to stumble across the Mets playing the Braves one night, and it just so happened to be a game where the Braves were winning 8-1 and then the Mets scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 8th to eventually win the game 11-8. I had no idea what was going on, but it intrigued me. At the time all I really knew about baseball was the basic idea of the game and that the Yankees were the most known name in the sport. When I got back home I discovered that a UK channel showed baseball games when the World Series was starting, and I stayed up to watch game 2. Of course we all know what happened between Mike Piazza and Roger Clemens in that game, and it was that moment that made me decide that I couldn't be a Yankees fan, so I went with the Mets instead.
