How did the Egyptians pull off this level of accuracy and precision?

I'm all about respecting the genius of former societies, but that doesn't invalidate our accomplishments made during the millennia that followed.

I'm open to acknowledging said accomplishments up to a certain point, but to the extent that it was previously worth defending, Western society died with the invention of the smartphone.

Given the current nature and condition of our world, I think it is extremely short sighted to be in any way proud of it. Life is not exclusively about technology. The standard atheistic defense for the towering pile of shit that we euphemistically refer to as a civilisation, is that this is the best of all possible worlds because infant mortality is lower, and polio mostly hasn't been seen for 150 years. I still believe, however, that even with infant mortality and polio, that one advantage that the majority of earlier civilisations would have had, (yes, even in scenarios such as serfdom) is that they still would not have had as much misery as we do.

I know there are a lot of people who at least claim to view twenty first century society as being better than anything humanity has ever had in the past; but from where I'm sitting, it isn't.
