how did you first discover lemmy/motorhead?

I had gone through some serious shit, lost a lot of loved ones and had a bunch of people outright turn their back to me. Come one night, I was depressed, drunk, burning through the last of my money and the last of my smokes wondering what the hell I was going to do. I wanted to listen to something, and as much as I love them, Maiden wasn't doing it for me and thrash and other stuff was just not making me feel any better.

One of my few friends who stuck by my side was a moderate Motorhead fan, and had turned me on to them. I had bought some cheapo best of and the first time I listened to it, I wasn't impressed. In fact, sad to say I had pretty much gone "eh" and shuffled it away.

On whim I looked it over, threw it on and first heard the opening drums to Overkill. Only way to feel the noise is when it's good and loud? HELL YES! The hook, the groove, the power - it was exactly what I needed. Then was Bomber! Even better! Then Motorhead! and so on until it ended with Ace of Spades.....

I can't say what it was. It just resonated with me. It was exactly what I needed at the time I needed it. I owe the boys at least a good chunk of my current sanity (although that may not be something to brag about :P )

But here is a funny one! I saw Motorhead a few years back at the Warfield in SF. A nice club, but known to be a little bass heavy. I think it was about the time Motorizer came out and they tore the whole place down. A perfect set for certain, but it was funny - when the drums for Overkill started, Mikkey was playing it so fast the floor was vibrating a lot. I mean A LOT. I felt like one of those toys on an electric football table it was so shaky! My friend and I left, and we just kept making jokes about how Motorhead was causing the next big Bay Area Quake!
