How did you lose the genetic lottery?

  • Both of my parents started exhibiting spinal degeneration in their late 40s. About 15 years after mine started going out in my teens. Seems like I got a combination of both sides there.

  • One side of the family (at least) had connective tissue problems (mild EDS, some hypermobility, significant scar tissue). Got that.

Combined with the first two I've had multiple fusions and one went bad causing Adhesive Arachnoiditis, which isn't generic but was caused by 2 genetic issues butting heads (scar tissue overgrowth weakened my spinal cord after a fusion causing a massive rupture during a later fusion).

  • My mom's family goes bald, my dad's goes early grey. Got both of those. Minor but dang I miss having hair in front.

  • My Dad has genetic Hemochromatosis ... and my mom's side is also mostly Irish. So yep, I got that, too (luckily my sister, who spawned my niece and nephew, didn't).

  • Dad and nephew were diagnosed with Asperger's a few years back and I have enough traits I'm self-diagnosed. No burning need to have it official since I'm out of school and no longer able to work.

I decided not to spawn around the age of 35. Wanted kids but no one deserves all this shit to be passed down to them now that medical knowledge makes it clear it's genetic.
