How did you meet your SO?

I was setting up for a quiet night at home, when my friend called and said she needed help herding a pack of guys she knew from college, as she was hosting a birthday party for one of them. When I got there, she handed me a men's dress shirt and said "This is [SO's brother]'s shirt, don't let it get dirty" and pointed out Jake, the "birthday boy", telling me "don't let him buy any drinks. He will keep trying to" (that is, buying rounds for his friends). She made brief introductions and set about mingling.

I'm socially awkward, and a bit shy - so I was worried I'd make an ass of myself holding some guy's shirt with a pack of men I didn't know. So I decided to "fake it 'till I make it" and pretend I was outgoing. I wound up chatting with a few of the guys (platonically) until I saw Jake, trying to buy drinks. I walked over, grabbed his extended hand (holding out his card) and lifted it up - away from the bartender. He looked down at me somewhat surprised, and I shot him a grin explaining he was off drink-buying duty. He returned my grin with a silly smile, and I wound up chatting with him and his best friend until we left the club.

We eventually went back to my friend's house so they could get some food and head back to their place. Jake was nothing but friendly, as he knew I'd just gotten out of a relationship (my friend commented on it).

A month later, I went to a dinner party and he happened to be there. Further, my friend hadn't mentioned that he'd been asking about me every week at trivia night (we're not really friends anymore). As soon as he saw me, grinning, he didn't leave my side all night. We wound up talking until the sun came up, with a little bit of wine, and more coffee - and there was this moment that we were laughing about something, and it was like time stopped. Something clicked and I thought "Oh shit. This is who you're going to marry" (not that it was a bad thing, I just wasn't interested in marriage). I wound up leaving shortly thereafter, even though he suggested going to breakfast/lunch/dinner (he just wanted more time with me).

The next day he told his mom he met the girl he was going to marry, and we had our first date about a week later. We've been together almost 8 years, and he's by far the nicest, most considerate, thoughtful, sexy, intelligent (I can keep going..) man I've ever known.
