How did you find out what job/study you wanted to do ?

I never really did. But I did eventually find out what I was good at through a combination of taking college courses and work experience, without going into debt. Paid for the courses while I worked. I took a lot of different courses and did a lot of different jobs.

For me though, I didn't finish my degree until I was already a professional. It may have opened a few doors, but it ended up being more of a check in that particular box. While it was a good experience, the debt that I'm still paying off probably wasn't worth it. I got some bad advice about going back full time, and that set me off track from my professional career.

So, word from the wise, if you can avoid debt, do it! Find a good job, that you can tolerate, maybe a company that does tuition reimbursement, and take your time.

But for what to do, what to study? Just try some things and if you feel inclined, go to night school. Take challenging classes, and there's usually a lot of fun stuff to choose from for your electives.

Absolutely you should take classes in writing, public speaking, art, computers, and a second language. The skill of communication -- written, oral, and visual -- in the professional world is what sets people apart. Understanding technology will always give you an edge in any problem you're trying to solve. Speaking a second language, will put you above 80% of most other people.

Then on your own, just allow yourself to delve into whatever seems interesting to you. Read a lot. Keep learning your entire life. If you can do that, you'll do quite well. Opportunities will present themselves. The right thing will find you!
