How did Y2K affect the gaming world at the time?

I was 16 and working at a CompUSA at the time.

You have no idea how horribly they as a company took advantage of people's absolute ignorance of this mostly non-issue.

We sold "supplemental insurance" (aka CompUSA-sponsored warranty that was expensive garbage), and part of that crap was "Y2K coverage"...was supposed to cover any issue related to it, but in reality meant nothing since it didn't effect most consumer-level products.

Admittedly though, I sold a LOT of iMacs at the time since we were an official Apple reseller, and we were mandated by them to advertise that Macs have been immune to the "bug" since the inception of Mac OS.

They were extremely shady even beyond this, I also worked behind the tech counter and they charged $60 to install a stick of RAM, something that effective takes less than five minutes to do.
