How does one lower the electricity bill?

How's the hot water? When the hot water cylinder is set too high, it can consume a lot of unecessary power.

Most households should keep their hot water cylinders set to 60 degrees Celsius, which is hot enough to keep your water clean and safe, and cold enough that your cylinder won't waste energy on keeping your water unnecessarily hot. Some older cylinders will allow you to set the temperature below 60 degrees Celsius.

You may be able to check your temperature to see if that could be wasted energy, off the cuff, if you have a kitchen sink filled with water just from the hot tap and can't submerge your hands in the water because it feels like lava, it may be a good indication your hot water cylinder is set too high (or you simply have sensitive skin), it's not exact science testing this way, but may give you an indication, if you can't find the temperature gage on your hot water cylinder.

If you suspect your hot water is too high, and are unsure hot to change the temp, please hire a plumber rather than change the temp yourself. As noted before if your hot water cylinder is set below 60 degrees Celsius, you could be inviting a host of bacteria into your water.
