How do we even attempt to reach out to African Americans?

Some comments from /r/politics:

Trouble is, Bernie's supporters think her appeal to African-Americans can be undone with policy discussions. The African-Americans I talk with aren't supporting her because of policy; they support her because she's a tough-as-nails fighter, which is what they want to pit against the GOP in November. They see Bernie as a nice, soft dude who'd get knocked out.

~~~
They don't care about any of that (if they even see it), especially not the Alan Greenspan videos.
They see how he acts toward his primary opponent and assume that's how he intends to act toward his general opponent, which would be suicide.
~~~

There's nothing I can do. They need to see Bernie play better offense. That nice-guy punching-bag business just doesn't appeal to them at all.

~~~
There's a whole lot of ground between badmouthing and being a complete pushover.
~~~

As I said in the other reply, they assume he intends to act toward his general opponent the same way he acts toward his primary opponent becuzcleancampaign.

Given their history, they have an acute awareness of how suicidal nice is. They don't respect it in a candidate, and I don't blame them. They want a cold-blooded fighter for November.

~~~
Which suggests to them he's a sideshow protest candidate who's not in it to win it and who expects Hillary to be the nominee. So they'd rather just go invest in the presumed nominee, who has no qualms about biting off her primary opponent's head like a boss.
Bernie already has my vote. I'm telling you why he doesn't have more of the African-American vote.
Personally, I want to see Hillary taken down hard, but if it were just my own little fantasy, I could live with Bernie's go-along-get-along strategy. Trouble is, I kept hearing the same thing on the streets of Iowa -- nobody wanted to listen, though. Now I'm hearing the same thing from African-Americans, which surprised me, because I was expecting "Who's Bernie?"
The voters are saying what they want, but Bernie's supporters keep dropping pointless YouTube videos and making excuses for his soft opposition and his groveling behavior during debates.
They don't care how strong his voice can become. They think he's hell-bent on running a so-called clean campaign all the way to the end. They think he's a chump.
