How is everyone so sure?

Throwaway

but it seems to me like everyone is thinking it's the total end.

Total end of what? If you mean complete extinction of humanity it's not guaranteed but the end of the current "organized" civilization within the next 5-100 years is almost guaranteed and we have known for a while.

We have overshot our carrying capacity and continue to go in the wrong direction. It's not just climate change which scientists have been warning about for decades. Resource depletion, mass extinction, loss of arable land, overconsumption, etc are all major problems which we have to deal with at the same time. We're also heavily reliant on fossil fuels and aren't transitioning enough to keep everything going so even without all the environmental factors we're still in trouble.

A lot of people are going to die prematurely due to collapse and things will only continue to deteriorate on the whole even if you prep for it but it can make your life a bit better as everything goes down the drain.

I don't mean to downplay climate change whatsoever since it's also a massive issue we won't solve with magic tech that allows the status quo to continue.

As a result of these human activities, there are “especially disturbing” trends of increasing land and ocean temperatures, rising sea levels and extreme weather events, the scientists said: “Despite 40 years of global climate negotiations, with few exceptions, we have have largely failed to address this predicament. Especially worrisome are potential irreversible climate tipping points. These climate chain reactions could cause significant disruptions to ecosystems, society, and economies, potentially making large areas of Earth uninhabitable.”

The scientists have been very vocal about this and while there are certainly things we could be doing to at least mitigate some of the devastation and damage we aren't doing it and in fact are doing the opposite.

There is a lot of negative things floating around on here, obviously.

The world is a very negative place which we dress up with lies and superstition to make it more bearable. It's quite unfortunate really.

On a more personal level a big factor for why I came to this conclusion along with much of the learning is through my own personal involvement with environmental groups. People just don't give a fuck about what happens outside of their own circle for the most part even if they understand the implications. Not enough people will do the hard things such as giving up luxuries and instead would much rather build a fucking wall to keep out even poorer people who contributed to the problems less than they did.

Then again what the fuck do I know.
