How Do You Explain This Hobby?

When introducing my girlfriends and friends to audiophile I use to try them first with something that is unmistakably different. It would be absurd for them to claim they can't hear the difference, and they know they couldn't get away with copping out.

For me personally is a Lenco L75 turntable feeding the Koss Esp-950 electrostatics. I find electrostatic headphones are an unmistakabe experience on their own. I've found the way the ESP render those alternative layers of detail is pretty hard to write off. But the intimacy and lushnes of the recording played back in this way is also staggering, no one can claim they can't hear it's different in a case like this. Lots of systems can sound different, this is just my example. Electrostatics like Stax on their own can be such an impactful experience.

My most used song is probably something like 'Storms' By Fleetwood Mac. Mainly because the setup really conveys the intimacy and environment of the track, and most of the people aren't familiar with it. I've had singular focus EDM fanatics, or background music Backstreet Boy holdouts loose their ever loving shit to an unexpected track like this they never would have listened to otherwise. If someone listenes to music as wallpaper especially, they just couldn't care if it sounds like slightly different wallpaper in my experience. They need to be pushed off balance first.
