How far can you go in an electric car? New test reveals the real ranges of models on sale today with one falling 100 miles short of claims

Even the Tesla Super Charger takes 75 minutes to charge to full, giving a range of apparently just over 300 miles.

You can fill a car with a large fuel tank in a minute and a half (assuming typical pump flow rate of 40-50l/min - pumps designed for larger vehicles can flow at up to 120l/min).

It takes 55 seconds for to fill my car, yielding a range of 400 miles. And my car isn't even particularly economical (that's not a good thing, to be clear).

Even taking into the fact I have to drive to the petrol station, I can still return with 398 miles of range in less than 10 minutes.

If I'm half way through a long distance trip, I can refuel by taking 5 minutes out and not have to worry for another 400 miles, doesn't take much planning. Best case scenario, even with a Tesla Supercharger, I'd have to take over an hour out of my trip.

I'm by no means anti-electric car. I'd have one myself today if it wasn't for the fact I don't use my car at all for local travel (only long distance stuff) and money is a massive barrier. I'm all for leccy cars. I don't have anywhere outside my house to charge either, but I would at work (though then I'd have to drive to work, which is clearly more environmentally and socially damaging regardless of vehicle type than using my bike).

But to suggest there aren't clear, and serious drawbacks compared to ICE as things stand is just incredibly misleading. Even if them drawbacks are largely to do with convenience and social attitudes to how we use our cars (and I'd absolutely argue for 99% of people that is the case), fact remains them drawbacks do exist and it's incredibly disingenuous to make comments like your own with such daft false comparisons.
