How do you feel about certain Batman fans that idolize the character’s broodiness and depression? Is the potential of Batman stories often held back by trying to appeal to these fans?

This argument fails to convince me, It just showcases that dark and brooding does work when done right, and how it can be done wrong, Nolan succeed thanks to how he handled that his dark Batman, same as the Arkham games, and even BTAS knew that delving into Bruce's brooding aspect was an opportunity rather than a burden...

There was even a time when Frank Miller knew this too as shown in TDKR where Batman was on the edge, he is at his darkest, but he was human, he had an ego that costed him against the mutants, he ended up sticking to hiss codes even against the returned Joker, and he never once intended to murder Superman, It was a ploy so he could return to his heroics unimpeded, whilst in his darkest moments, Batman found a way to still be Batman, which is admirable, I can see if its a step too far for some, but its a far-cry from how the later Frank Miller and how Zack Snyder would handle a brooding Batman... just because he's depressed doesn't mean he's evil, guys.
