How do you feel about "Status Quo"?

I agree with you about The Simpsons and Family Guy.

But I feel like the Boardies are not really much in a Status Quo state. I don't think Rebecca Sugar would have wanted it. Take a look at Buck. He was a distant Cool Kid. During Shirt Club, he treated Steven's drawing as a way of fulfilling his agenda. But once Steven made Buck realize that, Buck became closer to Steven. (The crew wanted Shirt Club to air first and then Joy Ride.) He decides to invite Steven over a Joy Ride, an episode in which Buck and others stand up for Steven, making the Gems realize that they have been pushing Steven too hard. By befriending Steven, he contributed to a major emotional reconciliation and honest conversation between Steven and the Gems. There are many examples that makes both Steven and the Boardies develop.

Jenny's sister Kiki became less of a pushover, and Steven explored more of his dream navigation powers in Kiki's Pizza Deliver Service. Kiki used to be make minor appearances, but her character grows and influences Steven. And Lars' development is definitely something that lets him escape from the status quo.
