Actually though, separate from just Invincible specifically, cause the situation with Amber was a bit different, I've never really gotten the benefit of keeping your identity secret from someone you love and trust.

Cause like, say the villains find out who you are in your civilian identity. They're totally gonna go and kidnap your mother, friend, or spouse, and they're gonna do it regardless of whether said person knows the truth about your superhero identity or not. So the whole "I didn't want to tell you my secret, because I wanted to keep you safe" makes no sense. If anything keeping the secret from them prevents them from being aware of the danger they might be in if your identity is ever exposed by your enemies, and prevents you from preparing them for that eventuality in any way.
